4CS OF DIAMONDS
Carat -
The weight of a diamond in milligrams. 1 carat = 200 mg.
Cut -
The proportion (depth, width), number of facets and shape of the stone after cutting. The “brilliance” of the stone is determined by the way the light is reflected by the facets in the cut.
Color -
A letter grade based on the absence of color in the stone. ( D = no color, Z = light colored).
Clarity -
A letter grade based on the internal characteristics called inclusions. (VVS, VS, SI, I)
